Durable Garden Furniture: Wood Railings And Tables

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:07 AM

Your average wooden picnic table may see like an inconspicuous piece of garden furniture. Beware, though, as looks can be deceiving especially if you are all set on moving it about the yard. It may not look like much but a wooden picnic table is the toughest item of yard furniture to move.

I set myself the goal to lose 10 pounds this summer. To increase the amount of exercise I take I took the step to volunteer for mowing the lawn on a weekly basis. It is not only a good workout in itself but also gives me a sense of accomplishment when I am done. A great benefit of mowing the lawn is that you exercise naturally yet you don?t even think about it. By adding mowing the lawn to your weekly routine will get your garden looking fantastic while keeping you in shape, especially if you add attempting to move a wooden picnic table to the equation.

The whole thing usually takes about an hour, during which my husband looks after our daughter. As I get to think, tend to the lawn and exercise all at once they get a good opportunity to bond. The first time I ever set out to mow the lawn I made it my mission to cut each and every rogue blade of grass that I could get to with the mower. As the wooden picnic was set on the lawn area I needed to move it to get to the grass underneath.

After about eight minutes of trashing about with this incredibly heavy piece of furniture I decided to switch the mower off. Still I could not get the table to move. I had no clue just how heavy this thing was. My best efforts proved futile and after a while I resumed mowing around it.

At least the whole endeavor amused the rest of the family as my husband and daughter laughed at my attempts to move the table. These days I just mow around it: my husband is quite skillful at trimming under the table with a weed whacker after I am done.

This little incident gave me a new awareness of our wooden picnic table, and of how well it is made. I now appreciate that we have a very solid piece of furniture in our garden which will most certainly not get blown away by the wind.
