Outdoor Teak Furniture Important Facts When Buying

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 PM

One of the biggest logical considerations for buyers of deck or patio furniture is price. Most of us cannot simply go out and buy the biggest and best outdoor patio furniture without serious financial consequences. Still, while pricing is always a huge factor in any deck furniture purchase decision?it should never be the only thing considered. The value that you get for your money is really just as important as the amount you spend. If you take the time to calculate the true value of any furniture purchase, then the initial price will not be a true indication of the quality and usefulness.

So how does one go about assessing value on premium outdoor teak furniture? One critical component to any valuation of furniture is its durability. After all, if a patio set only lasts one season then it certainly has little value and is most likely not worth the time and effort it takes to go out and purchase the furniture. Premium outdoor teak furniture is not made to be used for a season or two and then discarded.

The durability of teak wood is world renown and it has been used to construct ship railings and similar products because it can stand up to the elements?especially rain?year after year. Teak wood originates in Southeast Asia and takes nearly 4 decades to reach maturity and a stage where it can be used to make furniture and other fine products. The oil content of teak is very high and helps give the wood its weather-resistant qualities. Because of this high oil concentration within the wood itself, teak outdoor furniture can literally be left outside season after season with little to no care. It is very possible that a premium outdoor teak furniture set will be the very last set of exterior furnishings you ever buy?the quality is that good!

Aside from durability, the other critical component in any value estimate of teak furniture is its beauty. After all, a chair made from stainless steel would undoubtedly last for years and years outdoors without any signs of wear but that does not mean any of us would want metallic deck furniture! Fortunately, outdoor teak furniture is made with a golden brown hue that fades to a grayish silver patina as the years roll by giving the furniture a stately and refined look.

Beautiful, highly durable, and designed with comfort in mind, premium outdoor teak furniture is a very valuable investment and will bring you and your family bountiful returns for years to come.

Outdoor Kitchen Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 AM

For many years, outdoor cooking has remained an American passion. They just love cooking outdoors! What changed are the now high-end outdoor kitchen amenities such as refrigerators, space heaters, high-tech gas-fueled grills, and stylish furniture.

Nowadays, you should not find it surprising if outdoor kitchens have become one of the favorite segments in the industry of home improvement. Thus, it is hardly debatable that an outdoor kitchen adds to a home's functionality, value and pleasure for homeowners.

How does one build a practical outdoor kitchen? This article has five simple steps for you:

1.Plan

Like any other endeavor, creating an outdoor kitchen needs critical planning regarding two elements:

a.Location

Normally, outdoor kitchen are built adjacent to the inside kitchen or off the rear of the house. An outdoor kitchen should have a pleasing location and have an easy access to the interior of the house.

For example, you can build an outdoor kitchen on a pre-existing patio or deck and build a combination kitchen patio and/or kitchen deck.

Another thing, you should consider the frequency and nature of usage, that is if for entertainment and/or for recreation, of outdoor kitchen so that the whole layout will make all areas accessible and functional.

Imagination and appropriate layout are the only limits to this element.

b.Budget

Of course, budget accommodation is another crucial element in the planning process. You have to consider that even a modest set-up, which consists of a kitchen island and a pro quality grill, will need an estimate cost of 5,000 dollars.

A helpful tip then is to gradually build your outdoor kitchen. You can spend 7,000 dollars to buy chairs and tables and a grill for this year and then spend the same amount for deck lighting, patio heaters, and refrigerators for next year. It takes long before you finish your dream outdoor kitchen but you can be sure that the project will be higher in quality.

In other words, you should figure out how you can best afford a quality outdoor kitchen before getting so excited.

2. The Grill

Every modern outdoor kitchen should have a grill. Normally, a grill uses natural or propane gas. The things that make a grill different from the other are size, budget, and features. Depending on the configuration of the kitchen, you can choose a portable grill on wheels or a grill that is mounted permanently.

Also, you need to pay close attention to the following features:

a.total cooking surface

The more square inches the cooking surface has, the merrier you will be. In this case, you have enough space to grill your favorite poultry, meat, vegetables and/or fish.

b.quantity and size of size burners

If you have more and bigger side burners, you can accommodate large meals. You can also consider the presence of a rotisserie or a warming rack.

c.size of storage space

It is more advantageous if you have plenty of storage beneath your grill. Also, you have to check if your grill provides you with enough room to work around and cook. Ideally, there should be at least three feet of space on each side of the grill.

Outdoor kitchen furniture is becoming very popular these days, one important thing to remember about your furniture is that it has to be strong enough to survive the weather and the conditions outside. Plastic Patio Furniture Not What You Expect Much Better!

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:06 AM

What can be said about plastic that we do not know already, accept that it has become one of the greatest of all products that man uses in order to manufacture everything, and anything man can imagine? Since the invention of plastic, it was only a matter of time that furniture was to find its way onto the list of the many things that could possibly be made with plastic.

First, plastic is a very inexpensive material to make, therefore making it a very inexpensive material to purchase. Secondly, plastic is one of the most durable products ever made, fainting not at the harshest conditions that the elements of nature can throw at it, and has no fear of becoming rusted. Thirdly, plastic can be shaped and formed to every imagination that man can conjure up. Last, but not least, plastic can be manufactured in every color known to man, without having to be painted, or stained. Plastic furniture, because of all the qualities it has to offer, is one of the most sought after components for many households around the world.

Plastic patio furniture is rapidly becoming the furniture of preference after considering the money that can be saved when in comparison to wood, or stone. Because very little revenue is needed to manufacture plastic, the same can be said when purchasing such products. Wood and stone patio furniture can range well into the thousands of dollars, while plastic patio furniture will only take you into the mere hundreds, if you choose to go that high.

Plastic patio furniture is becoming the first alternative for homeowners, simply because it is known that it will still be here for generations to come, with very little maintenance. Plastic patio furniture can remain outside throughout the year without the fear of becoming rotted, or rusted. In most cases, a simple wiping down with a rag is all that is needed to keep it clean, or a simple spray from a garden hose can do the job with no thought of disappointment. For patio furniture that you want to make sure is going to be passed from one generation to another, it?s almost impossible not to go with plastic.

Patio furniture made from plastic is especially ideal for those that still want to keep the woodsy appeal to the appearance of their furniture. Because plastic can be shaped and formed to any mold, it can be made to have a wood grain look, or even a vine look, if preferred. It can be made to look smooth, or rough. If desired, your plastic patio furniture can still retain a solid metal look. With the never-ending array of colors given to plastic, you can be sure to find any style, in any color. Plastic has helped patio furniture to become one of the champions of its kind.

Should You Buy Todder Size Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:06 PM

Your baby has grown into a full-fledged toddler and is ready for a ig girl or ig boy bed. Have you seen the latest toddler furniture? It's cute! But you really don't have to spend a lot to make your toddler comfortable in his or her bedroom.

Your first decision will be whether to buy a toddler bed. The toddler bed is a piece of furniture sized just right for babies who are too big for their crib. Most use the mattress from the crib, however, so they are not actually that much bigger in size. Toddler beds just get the child accustomed to sleeping without rails all around and is low enough that if the child rolls out, he won't get hurt.

Has your child grown quickly? If so, you might think about skipping the toddler bed as furniture and buy a twin size bed instead. You can purchase rails made of cloth and plastic that do a fine job of keeping the child in the bed and allowing him more room for movement. If you are looking to save money, this is one way to do it. By buying a twin bed you've eliminated the often expensive toddler size furniture that will only have to be upgraded later.

Should you buy a toddler size dresser? Again, the toddler furniture is precious, but do you expect your two or three year old to always put away his socks, underwear or t-shirts? The purchase of toddler size furniture is less about function and more about how absolutely adorable it is. Unless you just have money to blow, invest in furniture that will last the child (or someone else in the family later if it doesn't match his room any more) for a lifetime. If you buy a six drawer dresser now you can still insist your toddler help put his things away by putting items like socks, shirts and under clothes in the lower drawers. Since the furniture will be heavier, help open and close the drawers for him to avoid smashing his little fingers.

When considering furniture for a toddler's room remember to keep special needs in mind. Some children have allergic reactions to compressed woods, or the glues used to hold them together. If you have just bought new furniture that seems to have a loud smell and your child develops allergy symptoms, let your doctor know. It may help pin down the allergy culprit without undergoing a lot of tests.

Use the money you save by not buying toddler furniture to change the d?cor in your child's room often. A toddler who likes Big Bird one day may be crazy over princesses or Thomas the Tank Engine another day. Use standard colors that match the furniture you've selected and you can change themes of the room as often as your child changes favorites. Your toddler's room can still be cute and as unique as his ever changing personality even if you don't sink a lot of money into toddler sized furniture.

Differences Between Plastic Wood And Aluminum Garden Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 AM

Differences Between Plastic, Wood, And Aluminum Garden FurnitureSubmitted By: Daniel Millions [See Author?s Biography

Garden furniture, also known as patio furniture, gives anyone who appreciates nature a front-row seat to the show. But as far as garden furniture goes, there are three distinctive materials that a consumer can choose from.

Each material offers specific benefits and drawbacks, so it is important for consumers to educate themselves on the specifics before making a purchase.

Plastic Garden Furniture

Plastic garden furniture is the cheapest of the three. Therefore, it is also generally the least appealing. Although they may not be very valuable or aesthetically appealing, plastic garden furniture holds great benefit over other materials.

First, plastic doesn't rust or break down under repeated water exposure. This means plastic furniture can be left outside year round, without any significant consequences. But this aspect is a double edged sword, in the respect that water can collect on the furniture and make them undesirable for use.

Plastic furniture also breaks quite easily, as compared to its counterpart materials. Don't expect plastic furniture to last half as long as wood or aluminum materials- but do expect to pay half as less.

Wooden Garden Furniture

Wooden garden furniture comes from nature itself- thus, it is quite appealing and matches nearly any patio situation. Wooden patio furniture can vary greatly in price range, but expect to pay a respectable amount for the durability and pleasing looks.

It's important to obtain wooden garden furniture that has been treated. This way, water will have a lesser effect on the health of the wood. If wooden garden furniture is left outside untreated, expect your investment to degrade within a year's time flat.

Aluminum Garden Furniture

Aluminum garden furniture is the most durable of the three. And since aluminum furniture is inexpensive to produce, you may find that aluminum garden furniture is even cheaper than wooden garden furniture.

There is, however, a need for care in regards to aluminum garden furniture. Some types of oils found in suntan lotion, perspiration, and a multitude of other sources can eat away at the aluminum finish. This will eventually corrode and chip paint off an aluminum garden set.

Trends In Garden Furniture

Currently, aluminum is among the most popular materials in garden furniture. It's inexpensive and durable; the best choice if the increase in expense over plastic furniture is viable. It will also, on average, last much longer than wooden gardening furniture.

But the trends don't stop there other materials such as glass, steel, vinyl, stone, and others are becoming popular in the contemporary market. The contemporary trends tend to be pricier than the three materials mentioned above, so be prepared to shell out more cash for these hip and trendy alternatives. (And in the case of glass, be prepared to possibly shell out more money for replacement glass if you aren't careful enough!)

Final Thoughts on Garden Furniture

Garden furniture allows consumers to enjoy nature from outside- yet do so in a comfortable manner. One can't exactly haul a sofa outside, as the rain and elements would destroy the furniture in days. Thus, the market for garden furniture was born and has been popular among outdoor addicts ever since.

Be sure to weigh the benefits and downfalls of each material previously mentioned. If you're new to garden furniture, you may wish to consult a local hardware store for more information and tips on garden furniture care.

Making the Most of your Game Room Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:06 AM

There is a changing trend in entertainment of our society and people are entertaining more at home. This is reflected in the emphasis placed on creating entertainment spaces; either indoor or outdoor living spaces. Indoor entertainment spaces include the game room completely furnished with game room furniture like pub tables, bar stools, pool tables and an entertainment center. The new designers of game room furniture have taken up the current style trends of using all kinds of fabrics, styles and materials. The internet has given shoppers the ability to pick and choose from a large variety of game room furniture styles that fit in with their styles and d?cor. If a discerning consumer doesn't find furniture to suit their particular style, some companies will custom design their game room furniture. The focus here is not on the comfort of the furniture but the functionality. Another indoor entertainment space is the home theater. The home theater room features a multimedia station housed in an entertainment center and a complete line of home theater furniture. The furnishing here is comfortable and relaxing allowing for an enjoyable experience.

Outdoor entertainment spaces can be decks, patios or secluded garden rooms. These spaces are usually used for barbeques or outdoor dining experiences. The furniture used for these gatherings is the standard patio furniture of picnic tables and benches. For a different spin use some of your game room furniture. For example, pub tables with bar stools can be used on your patio on a warm evening to enjoy snacks and drinks. Using pub tables is a new and innovative way to entertain. Pub tables are high tables with a relatively small table top. The table top is large enough to hold a few drinks and snacks. The small table top size of the pub tables allows you to save space especially if you are limited on space and you're entertaining a large gathering. You can take the concept another step further by setting up a game patio or porch party or rent /purchase a portable pool table for such an evening.

For a more intimate evening, you can use the pub tables and bring out the bar stools as well as add a patio heater for ambience and comfort. You can also use your pub tables and bar stools on a warm and lazy morning to simply enjoy breakfast on your patio or porch. Storing your pub tables when the weather changes is a cinch, once you are done using your game room furniture on your porch or patio simply return it to your game room.

If you use your game room furniture for both indoor and outdoor use, choose a style or design that can be flexible in both setting. The material that the game room furniture is constructed from should be made of materials that can stand up to use outdoors, in case you plan on leaving the furniture outdoors. The furniture should be made of a material that is light enough to carry back and forth easily.

Teak Furniture An Enduring And Beautiful Choice

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:07 PM

Teak Furniture An Enduring And Beautiful ChoiceSubmitted By: Mike O'Brien

A hardwood variety like no other, teak wood has been used for centuries. A tightly grained wood, teak grows wild primarily in India and Indonesia. The worldwide demand for teak has created a growing business in the cultivation of teak trees. Large plantations have sprung up where teak is grown entirely for harvesting.

Teak has physical properties that make it among the most popular of all the hardwoods. The hardness of teak makes it an easy wood to machine and finish. In addition to its tight grain pattern, the composition of the wood has other important advantages. The naturally occurring oils present in the wood gives teak the ability to withstand exposure to moisture. These properties make teak wood an excellent choice for outdoor and patio furniture.

Teak has been used for hundreds of years in shipbuilding. As late as the mid twentieth century, the decks of some of the worlds great ships were made of teak. The famous battleship, the USS Arizona, among many others, had teak wood decks. Sailors were assigned on an almost daily basis, to scrub and maintain the deck. Part of the work included the process of stoning the deck.

Holystoning, as it was referred in the old rocks and shoals British Navy, would require a piece of sandstone, rubbed briskly along the deck parallel with the grain. In the days of sail, a deck hand might do the work on his hands and knees. Other stone types might be used in conjunction with sand. The process of stoning would prevent the grain of the wood from raising or fraying. Though the use of teal oil is recommended by some, most shipboard teak decking was left to dry after being rinsed off.

Today teak is still used as a deck surface for boats and ships, though not necessarily for the same purpose. The days of the great wooden sailing ships, teak was the first and only choice for use in decks. Steel decks would not start appearing until the days of steam ships. Teak was often placed over a steel deck as a way to reduce the absorption of heat from the sun. Early steel hulled ships did not have air conditioning below the weather decks and a layer of teak wood would act to reflect the heat of the sun.

On small boats and pleasure craft, teak is still used for decorative trim and in applications where metal is not very practical. It is common to treat teak with teak oil or other coating. This is done mostly for aesthetic reasons. The application of teak oil and other finishes help to reduce the amount of maintenance while imparting a beauty glow to the wood. Left unfinished, teak wood will turn to the color of grey ash, not unlike unfinished cedar.

There is a limited amount of naturally grown teak in the world. Burma, Laos, Thailand, and India account for virtually all of the natural teak. The demand for teak has caused prices to rise. Because of the growing demand for teak worldwide, there are attempts to grow teak trees elsewhere, especially South America. There is some disagreement over whether plantation grown teak wood has the same qualities as trees growing and harvested in the wild. With many species of plantation grown plants, attempts sometimes made to speed up the maturation process. Fooling with Mother Nature is not always advisable.

Teak wood is an excellent choice for any type of furniture application. Outdoor and patio furniture makers often opt for teak over other wood species such as cedar. The natural beauties of teak wood combined with its other unique properties make it a perfect material for outdoor furniture. Whether the wood is left to age naturally of is finished with oils or stains, teak furniture is renewable. With proper care, teak furniture can last a lifetime.

Dog Training: How You Can Prevent Your Dog From Aggression Destroying Furniture And To Avoid Stress

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:06 PM

There are many reasons for teaching proper dog behavior, and teaching such behavior has many benefits for both the human and canine partners. Dog behavior training is vital to such life and death issues as preventing aggression, controlling dog on dog aggression problems and teaching dogs to interact properly with both their handlers and with other members of the family.

Understanding how dogs evolved, and how dogs interact with each other, is very important to understanding how to properly train your dog to be a devoted, loyal companion.

The original dogs were probably orphaned wolf pups adopted by early humans. These wild dogs probably learned to perform behaviors that their human protectors valued, such as guarding the cave or scaring off predators. In exchange for these valued behaviors, the humans probably provided their new companions with foods, protection and shelter.

That kind of relationship still exists today, of course, and dogs still can, and do, perform valuable jobs for their human benefactors. Those jobs include herding and guarding livestock, guarding property, guarding people, and finding game.

When planning a dog training program, it is important to know that dogs are pack animals. In wild dog societies, packs are formed, and each member of the pack quickly learns his or her place in the pecking order. Except in the event of death or injury to the alpha dog, the hierarchy never changes once it has been established. The lower dogs know not to challenge the alpha dog, and the alpha dog understand his place as leader of the pack.

All the other dogs in the pack look to the alpha dog for leadership, in important survival issues like finding food and avoiding larger predators. In order to properly train your dog and gain its respect, it is important for you to become the alpha dog.

That is because a dog that sees its owner as a superior leader will follow the commands the owner gives without question. Getting the respect of the dog is the most important step to proper dog training, and it will form the basis of all subsequent training.

The reasons for training a dog properly are many, especially in today's world. A well mannered, obedient dog is a joy to be around, both for the owner and his or her family, and for people in the community at large. In addition, seeing a well mannered dog sets people's mind at ease, especially with breeds of dog thought to be dangerous, such as Dobermans, rottweilers and pit bulls.

When training dogs and dealing with unwanted dog behaviors, it is important to understand the motivating factors behind those behaviors. For example, many dogs exhibit unwanted behaviors such as chewing and destroying furniture due to separation anxiety. Dealing with the sources of problem behaviors is an important first step toward eliminating those problem behaviors.

Many dogs exhibit unwanted behaviors as a result of stress in the animal's life, and its inability to cope with that stress. The goal of a good dog training program is to allow the dog to tolerate greater levels of stress without becoming a problem animal.

When dealing with dog behavior, it is important not to confuse human behavior with dog behavior. While there is a great temptation on the part of dog owners to see their dogs as almost human, in reality dogs and humans have very different motivations, and very different reactions to similar situations.

One trait that humans and dogs do share, however, is the need to form close social groups and strong bonds within those social groups. This bonding is important to both humans and dogs, but it has served vastly different ends as both species have evolved and changed over time.

Employment Conditions in the Canadian Furniture Sector

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 AM

As of 2004 the furniture industry in Canada employed some 92,810 persons, more than 44% higher than 10 years ago, but almost unchanged since the beginning of this century. The improvement from its 1993 recession low of just 59,559 is truly remarkable. In other words furniture industry employment has exhibited much resiliency, especially considering the impacts the industry faced since the early 1980s from Canada?s free trade agreement. The more recent employment decline is a reflection of the industry?s slowdown due to the strengthening Canadian dollar and more Asian competition.

The rise and subsequent fall affected predominantly production workers. Indeed, salaried/commissioned employees continued to rise during the past three years.

Interestingly, the number of firms in the furniture industry declined. In 1995 there were approximately 2500 furniture establishments in Canada, but a decade later it had fallen almost one-third to about 1700. Medium sized firms shrank relatively more than either large or small firms. This suggests that you either have to be big to compete internationally, or small and flexible to carve out a niche and survive.

As of 2005 the major furniture employer remains the household and institutional furniture and kitchen cabinet manufacturing segment with 61,105 employees or 60% of total employment in the furniture industry. This segment is followed by the office furniture segment with 34,453 employees or 34%. The ?other furniture segment? (which includes mattresses) accounts for only 6,334 employees or 6% of the total.

In 2005 Ontario accounted for 43% of all furniture employment, with Quebec accounting for 34%. The remaining 24% are scattered throughout the rest of the country, with Manitoba, Alberta and BC being the next most important provinces. Ontario dominates the office furniture, metal household furniture, upholstered household furniture and kitchen cabinets segments, while Quebec dominates in wooden household furniture.

When furniture employment is expressed as a percentage of the provinces? overall manufacturing employment, Manitoba at 10.2% had the largest portion of manufacturing employment devoted to furniture manufacturing. Manitoba is followed by Quebec with 6.3% of total manufacturing employment, well above the Canadian average of 5.2%. The percentage in most other provinces is below the national average.

The average furniture firm in Canada in 2005 employed 55 persons. By firm type the average number of employees ranges from a high of 102 in the office furniture segment to a low of 46 ion the household furniture segment. The furniture industry is dominated by a very few giants and a large number of very small companies. Well over three quarters of all establishments fall below the average of 55 employees. Only some 13% of establishments have 100 employees or more.

The degree of employment concentration has changed somewhat during the past decade, reflecting the adaptation of the industry to increased economy of scale production. Since the early 1990s recession the furniture industry?s real value added grew at a faster pace than employment. So furniture productivity has been growing quickly, no doubt propelled by a compelling need to use more labor saving technologies in today?s competitive environment

Increased automation and the adoption of new electronic and other processing technologies will lead to a continuing shift from low skill to high skill occupations. Shortages for skilled labor in the furniture industry persist to this day. The influx of skilled European labor has dwindled to a trickle, and Canada is not yet producing the required quantity and quality of skills from within its own ranks.

Between the early 80s and the early 90s there was the slight decline in real wages but following the recession in the 90s, there was a modest reversal of that trend. Assuming positive growth of the economy, real wages can be expected to continue to increase in the years to come. Furthermore, workers and managers will need more specialized skills, and such workers can only be attracted by higher pay rates.

The aging of the population will also drive wages to higher levels. The flow of young and relatively inexpensive workers will become less abundant. As a result, industry will be forced to increasingly engage more mature workers, who are invariably more expensive, but not necessarily more skilled, on modern machines. All of which suggests training and will take on added significance in the furniture industry over the decade ahead.

As of 2005 the average furniture industry production employee received $18.52 per hour compared to $20.60 per worker in manufacturing in general. Thus there is a 11.2% gap between the earnings of production workers in furniture and of production workers in manufacturing generally. In 1995, however, the gap was actually much wider at 36.0%, so a noticeable relative improvement in furniture production wage rates has occurred.

Average hourly earnings in the household segment always lagged behind those of the office furniture segment.

Cat Furniture Which Type Is Best?

Cat Furniture - Which Type Is Best?Submitted By: David P Lee

You?ve heard the hype about how, historically, cats have been revered, even worshiped by some cultures. Some people walk through pet stores and think that this is still happening today. After all, look at all of the elaborate cat trees and cat furniture that is available. People who do not have cats often scoff at all of the cat tree furniture and other type of cat furniture they see available in pet and department stores. They seem to think that cat owners who buy these things for their pets are spoiling them. What they don?t understand is that cat trees and furniture for cats are not always purchased as presents. Sometimes a cat?s owner will purchase these things as a survival tactic. After all, if the cat has its own trees and furniture to scratch and play on, maybe it will leave the human furniture intact.

There are several basic types of cat trees and cat furniture available. The first, and most basic, of all cat accessories is the scratching post. A scratching post is a ?must have? for any cat owner. Cats have an intrinsic need to work their claws. They work their claws a lot. The way they work their claws and keep them sharp is by scratching on things. They are not picky about what they scratch as long as it provides a tiny bit of resistance to their claws and can give their paws a good workout, so providing your cat with a scratching post will be one of the best things you can do if you want to save your furniture. A scratching post is basically a piece of wood that is attached to a base and then covered in cheap carpet.

The most basic form of cat furniture is the ?cat condo? which is a round and hollow tower that usually has between one and three ?rooms? that have their own entrances. The whole thing is usually covered with the same carpet that covers scratching posts and provides your cat with its own ?private space.? These are not as essential to buy as a scratching post, but they can be helpful in keeping your cat off of the furniture. This, again, speaks to the cat?s territorial nature. Apparently cats never learned to share when they were being revered as gods. Once they are given their own spaces for hiding, sleeping and playing they are likely to lose all interest in the rest of your belongings.

Interesting fact: Some cats work their claws as a way of dealing with stress. Keep an eye on your cat?when they get freaked out about something, do they head straight for their scratching post (or the side of your couch)? Chances are they are calming themselves down! The best part about cat trees and cat furniture is that all of it is covered in the same carpet that covers scratching posts. This gives your cat even more surfaces to attack safely. The more places they have to play, the safer your furniture will be.

5 Secrets to Buying Quality Discount Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 PM

Let's face it - furniture is not cheap. Each time I have to go furniture shopping I cringe at the sales process: comparison shopping, trying to compare apples to kumquats, cost versus quality and of course finding exactly what I want.

Having moved at least one too many times in my life I have come up with a few tips for finding the quality and style I want at a reasonable price. Just like every other major purchase, if you look hard enough you can find a discount. Furniture is no exception.

I hope the following are as useful to you as they've been to me over the years.

  • Move to North Carolina; Furniture manufacturers are EVERYWHERE and you can buy right from the factory. If you aren't moving there, maybe on your move you'll be traveling through North Carolina. Furniture can be bought and shipped at a great discount compared to buying locally. If all else fails, look for a local retailer who sells North Carolina furniture - its American made, well constructed and among the highest quality discount furniture you'll find.
  • Shop at big box and discount stores. I won't name names, but you'd be surprised at how much some of the larger stores can discount furniture from places like Indonesia. The only catch is you will probably have to put it together yourself. In fact, you can often find such great discounts (and I'm not just talking about the big three - look to the more niche oriented stores as well) on everything from lawn to bedroom furniture you'll have enough left for a case of wine or two.
  • Consider consignment stores. There are plenty of good reasons for people to put their slightly used furniture on consignment. Perhaps they're moving and won't have enough space, or the spare bedroom furniture has to go to make room for a new baby. You never know what might lead people to put furniture up for sale. These consignment stores often have nearly new and very stylish furniture at a great discount to the original retail value.
  • Buy furniture by mail order or online. I get catalogs every day from new manufacturers and retailers with good product at a great discount. Furniture too! Don't just toss those catalogs; keep the best of them around. Be sure to do your research online to make sure that the brands and manufacturers they represent have a track record of quality. The same goes for online furniture buying. Remember, anyone can put up a web site and promise great discounts. Furniture, however requires a little more research. The beauty of online buying is: if you found the store online, you can usually research their quality and ethics online too.
  • Don't forget about your local retail furniture stores. Some of the greatest furniture discounts are just down the road. In every retail industry there's seasonality, production and delivery cycles and other factors which can have a big impact on your local dealer's willingness to offer you a discount. Furniture is no different. Just like cars and jeans, there's always next year's model coming down the pipeline.

As you can see above, it's not so daunting to find furniture at a discount. In fact, this advice can apply to a lot more than furniture (all except the North Carolina information).

Most Americans will move many times in their adult lives. And, as we attain greater wealth and success there's always a need to improve our surroundings. Just because you can afford more doesn't mean you won't look for a bargain. And if by following a few simple suggestions you can find great discount furniture it's probably worth your time and effort too!

Teak Patio Furniture ? Golden Or Aged It Is Your Choice

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 AM

Teak Patio Furniture ? Golden Or Aged It Is Your ChoiceSubmitted By: Jesse Akre

So you decided to create a little piece of heaven in your backyard and purchased some gorgeous teak patio furniture to fill it. A couple of Adirondack chairs and a table or two and you are set to enjoy the simple pleasures of summer.

But before you leave your new furniture to the elements you need to decide if you want to maintain its golden brown color or let it age to a striking silvery gray patina. You see teak is probably the strongest wood used in outdoor furniture today. Grown in the jungles of Indonesia it is full of natural oils that lend it water and rot resistance. Able to endure fifty years or more in any weather it is often used in ship and bridge building. When it arrives at your house in the shape of a chair or table it will be a shade of warm golden gray that will fade eventually.

In order to maintain its true color you need to treat it right away with teak protector. This will help hold in the wood?s natural oils maintaining the golden glow it came with. Every year you will have to retreat your teak patio furniture with the teak protector to ensure it stays a nice warm brown.

Some don?t much care about the color and just leave their furniture to deal with Mother Nature unprotected. This is not a problem with teak because of the aforementioned oils. It is almost impervious to rain, sun, sleet or snow. But its color will fade. Most people like the aged look teak gets after a few years, but if you wish you could return it to its original color, you can. Simply treat your teak patio furniture with a teak cleaner to remove the silver gray patina. Once the golden color is back treat it with a teak protector. Again as before, you need to retreat it annually with the protector to keep it that warm golden brown that you reminds you of your vacation in the Caribbean.

Those are really the only two colors your teak patio furniture can be. Most paints will not adhere to teak because of the naturally occurring oils. If you really wanted to paint it you would need to go to a marine or boat store and see if they have anything that will not compromise the innate qualities of your teak furniture.

No matter what shade or look you want your outdoor furniture to have the most important thing is that you will be able to use and enjoy it. Whether that?s enjoying the sunrise and a morning cup of java on the deck or sharing your garden?s bounty and some good wine with some great friends, is up to you. Teak furniture is an investment in the good life.

Your chairs and tables might be around longer than you are, but as long as you enjoyed their comfort and durability that shouldn?t matter. Golden brown or silvery gray teak furniture is the best choice to create a little bit of paradise of your own.

Decorating your bedroom tips on choosing the right furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 PM

As well as a place of rest, the bedroom provides an escape from stress and worry - a haven from the everyday comings and goings of family life. It's the most private room in the house and, unlike other areas of a family home, belongs exclusively to the individual or couple who sleep there. With the right furnishings and planning, it can become an idyllic refuge that offers a great deal of comfort and relaxation.

The choice of bed is of course a main consideration when decorating a bedroom. The average person spends over a third of their life in a bed so it's important that the right kind is chosen. Symptoms such as back-pain and lack of sleep are often attributed to a poor bed and merely buying a new mattress will not necessarily alleviate these problems. The best solution is to purchase a divan and mattress together, considering that both are designed to work with each other. The big furniture retailers sell them individually or in sets.

Brass beds can prove a very attractive centre-piece and are relatively inexpensive nowadays. They offer a more traditional ambience and are suited to most styles of bedding, due to their practical design. The same is true of four-poster beds. These can provide added privacy as well as enhancing the look and feel of a bedroom. However, they are more suited to larger, high-ceiling bedrooms so careful consideration is advised if you're thinking about buying one.

The placement of a bed is often influenced by space. The standard practice is to place it in the centre of the room, with the headboard pushed against a wall. Although this method can save space, if your bedroom is spacious it might be worth considering other layouts. The positioning of a bed might enable you to include other furniture pieces such as a desk or table. It can also provide more storage space.

A bedroom's space is often divided between two people. Therefore, it's worth considering the allocation of storage furniture to each person - it can help bring order and organisation to a bedroom's living space. Wardrobes and cupboards are a popular means of storage and can often bring character and charm. Wardrobes with sliding doors are a more space-effective alternative to hinged versions and are available in a variety of designs. It is worth paying a bit extra if you want the sliding-door feature as budget versions often suffer from sticking runners. Chests of drawers provide a further storage option and come in the form of tall-boys and standard three-door varieties. If you don't have enough hanging space for cloths then this type of furniture can offer an effective solution to clothes storage.

The Advantages Of Using Teak Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:06 PM

Teak is truly a ?super? wood. Its many qualities make it an attractive choice when people are buying their furniture, for either inside or outside.

Durability

Teak is a dense, coarse, close-grained hardwood. It contains naturally high levels of resinous oil that acts as an insect repellent and allows it to be resistant to moisture and the drying effects of weather. In fact, it is so high in natural oils that it doesn?t need to be treated with oil or varnish for it to be suitable for use in exposed locations. It?s this durability that makes teak furniture ideal for use outdoors.

Resistance

Teak also contains silica, which makes it resistant to fungal decay, water, rotting, warping, shrinking, swelling and many chemicals. It will not rust or corrode metals it comes in contact with and it can withstand the elements of all seasons. Teak is highly resistant to moisture, fire, acid and alkalis. Teak furniture often appears in the most unlikely places, such as the kitchen. At first glance, you might think that teak would not be a suitable material for the kitchen. However, it is the very fact that it can withstand so much that makes it an ideal wood to use in this room and others. It won?t rot, stain or burn easily. This, combined with the fact that it is an extremely heavy wood, with dense fibres that make it relatively easy to cut and graft, make it one of the finest woods from which to construct furniture.

Natural beauty

Teak has a very attractive straight grain, which draws the eye immediately. It needs minimal maintenance and does not need to be treated or sealed on a regular basis in the way other woods do. Teak wood has inherent imperfections which serve to enhance its natural beauty. If you are looking for unique furniture which is full of character, then teak is the wood for you.

Protect Your Furniture Against Environmental Factors

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 AM

So you have just moved into your new home. Decorated it with new Amish furniture, new upholstery, new electronic goods, new hopes and loads of excitement. While the excitement wears down after a few months as you get accustomed to your new surroundings, you certainly do not want your furniture to wear down too. Not in a few months, not in a few years either. While you may take very good care of your furniture pieces and clean them regularly, there are a few environmental factors that tend to take their toll.

Ultraviolet light damages wooden and other organic material furniture. This kind of damage is irreversible. Exposure to less light for a longer period of time or exposure to strong light for a shorter period of time will both cause similar damage and discoloration. The light energy converts to heat energy on contact with furniture surfaces. This rise in temperature chemically causes the polishes or colors to degrade. The wood would then need to be stripped and refinished to restore its previous look.

To avoid all the damage light can cause, avoid keeping furniture in direct sunlight. Draw the curtains, especially in the afternoon hours. Put blinds or drapes on all windows. You could also get your windows coated with UV-filtering film (like you do in cars).

Moisture in air can also cause great damage to furniture. You must have noticed wooden doors becoming tight and getting stuck during the wet days or some green fungus appearing on unpolished wooden pieces. Wood expands or contracts with an increase or decrease in the relative humidity in the air. A 40% - 60% relative humidity is tolerable. Beyond this level, wood starts to expand. At low levels it may shrink and cause a split. The wood and the finish covering it respond differently to the changes in humidity. This may cause the coating to separate from the wooden surface and peel off. High humidity can cause insect infestation and fungus and mold growth as well. To prevent damage, avoid placing furniture in areas of extreme temperature and humidity conditions. If you furniture pieces are really precious, you can also maintain the humidity in their vicinity by using humidifiers and dehumidifiers.

An RH of below 39% will cause the wood to dry out and warp. Applying oil will not really prevent that. The best option is a coating of good paste wax. Wax is very stable and does not change chemically over time and provides protection from moisture and airborne pollutants. Carefully apply the coat on furniture with a pronounced grain pattern such as Amish oak furniture. A thin coat applied once a year is enough. Do not wax furniture that is gilded, painted or lacquered.

Check for any environmental and other damages before buying used furniture from auctions etc. When buying used Amish furniture online, make sure the original quality craftsmanship has been maintained well by the previous owner. A little care on your part will increase the life of your furniture by many years.

Furniture Can Improve Looks of Your House

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:05 AM

Buying furniture, whether it's a new couch or an entertainment center can really improve the look of your house or apartment. It's best to try to match the new furniture you buy to the look and style of your place. Keep in mind the color that your walls are painted and if there is any wallpaper. Certain furniture styles go better with specific colors, styles and textures, so choose accordingly.

It's always a good idea to shop around when in the market for new furniture. If you find a great entertainment center that you love, don't purchase it right away. Visit at least two or three other stores to make sure that they don't offer the same entertainment center at a lower price. Or, they may have a comparable entertainment center that you like just as well for half of what you would have paid at the other store. Things like that happen often, so don't pass up an opportunity to save yourself a lot of money by purchasing furniture at the first store you visit.

Lastly, if you don't have the means of bringing your furniture home safely, pay the extra fee to have it delivered. The great thing about letting a store deliver your entertainment center, couch or bed is that you don't have to worry about anything. You won't have to load it up, drive it home or carry it inside. All of this will be taken care of for you! And, if anything should happened to the furniture on the way to your house, like nicks or any other damage, it won't be your fault and you'll be able to demand they replace it. Having your furniture delivered can cost a hundred or so extra, so it's up to you to determine if it's worth it or not.

Farm Theme Kid Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:05 PM

Children love animals. Even toddlers can recite, from memory, what sound the cow makes (?mooooooooooo!?), and copy the ducks as they make their way to the pond.

And even those who have grown up in the city, who have not come within miles of a barn, have a great fascination with farms. For them, nothing is cooler than the idea of rolling green fields and hundreds of trees to climb?imagine, it?s a five hectare yard! The only thing better is having dozens of pets, from cats and dogs to horses, sheep, ducks, and a real cow.

Unfortunately, very few kids will be able to live in a farm, but using farm theme kid furniture can give them the closest approximation?and it?s so easy to do, even if you have no time, or no artistic inclination. That?s the beauty of today?s selections. They?re fully coordinated, so you don?t have to think about what matches which piece, and they contain delightful embellishments that immediately contribute to your chosen look.

You just need a few key pieces of farm theme kid furniture. Look for those decorated with animals: cows, horses, ducks, chickens, roosters.

Since these farm theme furniture are usually done in bright, primary colors?mostly reds and yellows?then keep your walls a neutral color. White may be too harsh, but you can have a very soft yellow or cream. You can even use stencils to paint a landscape. You don?t need to be a Van Gogh, just need to draw a happily and smiling fun, a few clouds, and something that looks like a country road disappearing into the horizon.

Wood floors are the best complement for farm theme kid furniture. The good news is that they?ll also take the wear and tear of active children (at least you don?t have to worry about chocolate spilling on the carpet!). You can use braided rugs and throw pillows in a country-style gingham print.

The farm theme kid furniture also includes beds and chairs. Show off their beautiful designs by using coverlets and pillows in simple primary colors. (Noisy prints can compete with the designs). Decorate, instead, with stuffed animals. For example, if your set of farm theme kid furniture includes a sweet rocking chair, prop a fluffy stuffed sheep or cow over its hand rest.

You can also buy accessories like lamps to further complement your farm theme furniture. Instead of a traditional alarm clock, why not find a novelty item that looks or sounds like a rooster, or hang a traditional farmhouse fixture?the cuckoo clock?on the wall. Use a large wicker basket the type used whenever farm hands gather apples, as a dirty hamper. While the farm theme kid furniture already creates a unified look, these tiny touches complete it. Your little farmer will also enjoy going to sleep in animal print pajamas, listening to nursery rhymes or videos about animals, and reading books like Charlotte?s Web, Pollyanna, or Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.

How To Bring Sustainable Furniture Into The Home?Submitted By: Jonathan Howkins

Bend it, shape it, anyway you want it.

Where to buy contemporary plywood furniture and accessories.

Plywood is an adaptable product that takes natural timber and makes it better and stronger, just make sure it?s ethically sourced.

Plywood has long inspired furniture designers. The structural advantages over solid timber arise from the use of many thin layers with the grain running in different directions. The thin laminations also allow easy moulding into fairly complex shapes that couldn?t be accomplished with solid timber.

And as timber products come from natural, renewable sources and are themselves biodegradeable plywood?s environmentally-friendly, right? Not always is the answer. Most medium-range plywood available today is faced with tropical hardwood. (The UK currently imports more than one million cubic metres of tropical hardwood annually, mostly in the form of plywood).

The Centre for Alternative Technology (www.cat.org.uk) advises consumers look out for plywood with FSC-certification ? NB certification needs to apply to the entire thickness so although '70% FSC content' sounds good it can still hide unsustainable, tropical hardwood in the inner layers. And CAT reckons there is really no good reason to use anything but European plywood. The shorter transport distances reduce the embodied energy considerably.

Fashion and Furniture Tip Three Ways To Buy Cheap Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 AM

Before any refurnishing or decorating can be done, you must know how much you can spend on furniture. Unfortunately, after the budget deliberation with your spouse, most are confronted with not much of an amount to spend with.

Where can I find cheap furniture? Or, most aptly, is it still possible to find cheap, quality furniture nowadays? Finding the right furniture that is comfortable with your butt cheek and your budget is not a concern which is unique only to certain individuals. Let?s face it, not everyone leaves home every morning to head for work in three-hundred plus floor building or tower and comes home every night six-digit figure richer.

The truth is, times are hard. We want to get as much as we can with what little that we have. However, if money is hard to come by these days, so are quality furniture! Therefore, here are four ways to buy cheap quality furniture.

1. Try garage sales Although it is quite difficult for some to swallow their pride, garage sales are actually excellent places to start hunting for cheap quality furniture. Why? Most homeowners in rich, plush neighborhoods change furniture at least once in every two years. Most homeowners who can afford to actually change pieces of furniture to match new draperies, new carpets or new room color schemes. Thus, most furniture in these garage sales have only been slightly used. Most likely too, the owners would not mind handing it to you at a cheap price ? just as long as they can get rid of it fast enough to make space for their new home improvements.

2. Consider RTA or KD furniture If you have not tried yet, consider buying Ready-To-Assemble furniture or Knock Down furniture. They are functional, cheap and most of these are made of high quality ? though synthetic ? materials.

3. Search the internet The internet is such a rich resource for furniture and home fixtures. Browsing or window shopping for furniture online saves you the gas mileage and the trouble of having to go through brick-and-mortar furniture shops which only allow you as much designs and prices range as their shop space ? and shop rental ? can afford to offer. However, with internet furniture shops, the virtual space allows for endless items to be displayed online. Therefore, not only are you privileged to choose from as much as 30,000 furniture items online, you can also go directly to the items of the price range you can afford.

It's been said that no idea is original anymore, and that's usually the case, even in terms of the bedding that we use today. Ancient Egypt and Rome show evidence of having created the first platform beds, and though they've just come into heavy popularity today, they are certainly not the first of their kind. However, with modern techniques and building methods today, one may wonder just how much improvement has been made on the original design. Are modern platform beds high quality items that can be expected to last through the years, or will they have to be frequently replaced as have some other trendy designs in the past?

Fortunately, we are not stuck in the dark ages with limited technology, and the modern platform is actually a very sturdy, reliable bed. Purchasing wood platform beds adds both style and long-term potential to your bedroom needs, with the d?cor adding to the personality of the bed as opposed to a large, imposing piece of furniture creating an atmosphere around which everything else must revolve. As a basic design element, this bed is more than just a slab of wood on the floor - most platform beds are built to last and to adapt to the environment and design of your choice.

Other king wood beds tend to be overwhelming, especially in a tight bedroom space. With these less intrusive and intricate pieces, less room is needed, and the piece even appears smaller, saving room for other furniture and decorations without making the space feel as though it's cramped quarters. The beds have a minimal amount of construction work that involves fewer pieces, meaning there are less joints, screws, bolts, and components to come loose over time. Wood versions are thick and supportive so there is little worry of bending, bowing, and sagging of the mattress.

If purchased separately, platform beds will match almost any furniture you already have, which is good since they are high quality and long lasting in most cases. If you buy everything together, many contemporary bedroom sets now contain a platform bed as opposed to some of the older or classic popular styles. While these beds come in a wide range of prices, you need to balance what you spend with what you can expect from the bed. If you overpay, you'll regret having dropped too much money when you could have gotten something just as good for a little less. On the other hand, sparing too much expense can result in losing that long lasting quality you desire.

Whether you are considering platform beds for your master bedroom furniture or another room in the house, they are excellent pieces of furniture. Like all objects, there is room for error, and not all beds are made the same, but with the proper outlook and awareness, you can rest comfortably and be sure that you've made a high quality purchase.

How To Remove Spots From Fabric Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:06 PM

First of all, let me explain one thing about spots and stains:

- We call spots some unwanted soiled marks on the fabric that does not belongs to the fabric itself and can be easily removed. Spots are more like: - Grease, shoe polish, finger prints, etc.

- Stains are a little more complicated to be removed and most of the times they can not be removed at all. Few stains that can be removed from the fabric are more like: - Food, coffee, juice, wine, beer, water, ink, urine, etc.

- Stains that can not be removed from fabric are bleach; and hard to remove: blood.

Most of spots and stains can be removed if used with the proper product. One very important thing to remember is to pre-test the material first. Here I will tell you how to remove most of the stains out of fabric, and the same process can be used to remove spots/stains from carpet as well.

This is what you need to do first, before you can actually try to remove any spot or stain from fabric or carpet:

- Take an inconspicuous area and make a test first. If you a trying to remove a spot/stain from carpet, go to a closet or a small area under the bed or behind a dresser and try the product you are going to use to remove the spot/stain. Apply a small amount on the cloth and work on the carpet and observe for a color transfer. If you notice a transfer, stop use the product, try a different, a mild one. The same concept applies for fabric, usually under the furniture you will have a small piece of fabric where you will be able to try for color fastness or transfer. If you noticed that the color is been transferred to the cloth stop the process and try something different. Always pre test any product before use them.

Alright, let?s get started:

-Liquid Stains:

1- First blot the stain with a clean cloth leaving it, if possible, on the stain for a few minutes to absorb the most out of it. Keep changing the cloth for a clean one for as long as you see transfer. 2- Then, spread ?Super-Sorb Liquid Spills Absorbent? over the stain and let it stand for about 15 to 20 minutes. 3- Vacuuming the whole area repeating the process if necessary. 4- If the stain persists, repeat steps 1 to 3 until you see no more stain.

-Grease or shoe polish spots:

1- Using ?Buckeye Gum, Tar & Oil Remover? blot a small portion onto a clean white cloth and start working gently on the spot. 2- Repeat the process for as long as you see transfer. But, remember to not over-wet the spot or you can damage the fabric. 3- If possible, do a little each day until you have all the spot gone, this will avoid over-wetting the spot.

-Ink stains:

1- Using ?RESOLVE Spot Magic Carpet Cleaner?, spray a little mist on top of the stain and blot with a clean white towel. 2- Keep repeating the process until all ink is removed.

Note: Most of ink stains require more than one time service, just remember to avoid over wetting the stain, if necessary do it in more days.

-Pet urine stain:

This is something different from any usual stain; you are dealing with many things in here:

- Bacteria.

- Acid

- Sometimes blood.

- Bad odor.

- Body fluid.

So it requires a more detailed procedure and the use of a hand glove. Some technicians use mask because of the products they deal with, in this scenario, you are not require to use mask as our product won?t do you any harm.

1- First blot the stain with a clean dry white towel to remove as much urine you can. 2- Then, spread ?D-Vour Absorbent Powder? over the stain and let it stand for 15 to 30 minutes. 3- Vacuum the powder off the stain and repeat the process if necessary. 4- Using the ?Shakedown Odor Eliminator? spread it over the stain and in the entire area after the stain has been removed. 5- Vacuuming the entire area in the next day.

Note: This process should remove the stain without any problem, if don?t, repeat steps 2 to 5.

Sunroom Furniture To Suit Your Sunroom Plan

Posted by Martin Weiss at 7:06 PM

What is a sunroom? Think of a warm. comforting room saturated with sunlight during most of the day. Sunrooms are placed facing the south in the northern hemisphere. and facing the north in southern hemisphere to take the most advantage of the natural light. If you are in an area where sunlight is not available all year long. you will appreciate the value of a sunroom. Very hot. tropical areas. near the equator. for example. would not need sunrooms since the temperatures there never get very low.

If you are lucky enough to have a house that sprawls across a space. such as a ranch house. you can place a sunroom at each end and take advantage of both the morning and the afternoon sunlight. A sunroom is a unique kind of space in your home and as such. requires its own special kind of furniture. Since it is a semi-outdoor room. it is exposed to sunlight (of course!). rain if the wind is blowing. and during the winter it can be exposed to snow and cold air. Because of this direct contact with the elements. sunroom furniture must be able to withstand harsh conditions. This makes it necessary for sunroom furniture to be very durable and long lasting. as well as easy to take care of. Furniture that would need to be covered when it rains. or polished frequently would require too much work.

Two types of furniture work well in this environment: furniture of natural materials that are used to being exposed to the elements. and synthetic furniture that has had durability manufactured into it. A sunroom is easy enough to achieve. especially if you are a handy do-it-yourselfer. A kit can be purchased that makes it easy to erect. You can make a sunroom of glass to maximize the amount of light that you get. and there are packages that include heating for those periods when there is no sunlight coming in. A low wall can be built to add to the feeling of making it a real room. The most common materials that sunrooms are constructed from are: PV. aluminum. wood and metals coated with PVC. The choice of furniture for a sunroom will depend on how the room is constructed. If the room is fairly well protected. you can use almost any type of furniture. just as you would inside the house. Otherwise. you may want to have furniture made of teak or bamboo. that can withstand the elements. These materials are long lasting and easy to care for. In a sunroom that is completely open. or with only a kneewall. the furniture has to be portable. since you are probably going to stop using the room in the harsh weather. PVC furniture. especially if it can be stacked. or metal furniture coated with PVC will serve this purpose. Both of these are available in many. many colors. so you can match any decorating scheme. Bamboo furniture is a popular choice for sunroom furniture since it is an outdoor material. It has the advantage over teak in that it is much lighter weight and easier to move.

If you have a sunroom where the sun moves around the room and you want to move the furniture to be able to sit in the sun. bamboo is the wiser choice. Since a sunroom is designed to be bright and sunny. the best choice for fabrics in the room is cheery designs that go with the light hearted atmosphere of such a room. Bright colors are typically used. but coordinating them carefully is important. since overwhelming brightness combined with the light of the sun may be overpowering.

Unfinished Furniture Finish It Yourself!

 by: Mike Yeager

Unfinished furniture has started to become extremely popular in the last few years. As customers have discovered the benefit of buying unfinished wood furniture, the industry has responded with an even larger selection. There are many benefits to buying unfinished furniture. One is that you are able to see what you are buying. Unlike finished furniture, you will be able to immediately see if your furniture has defects like discoloration, knots, or clear weak points.

Manufactures of unfinished furniture know that they must use superior quality lumber in unfinished wood furniture production, because they know they can not cover up defects that they could under a finished wood piece of furniture. Another benefit of buying unfinished furniture is that you will be able to save money. As the company will not have to pay for the finishing, they will pass the savings on to you. Not only will it be cheaper than finished furniture, it may have higher quality craftsmanship because the manufacture would not be able to cover up the defects like they would if it was finished. Sometimes it is difficult when buying furniture to find furniture that matches the dcor of your house. With unfinished furniture, that is never a problem.

There are many stain and paint colors available to choose from, so you will be sure to find one that matches the rest of your house. Be aware that pops unfinished furniture is widely considered the easiest brand to finish on your own. Some people may be concerned about the difficulty of applying the finish to their furniture. However, there is no need to worry. Most furniture finishes are very simple, and nearly anyone can finish furniture. Usually, complete instructions are given on the finishing products and store personnel are most willing to assist you if you need help.

Tips for Purchasing Office Furniture

Posted by Martin Weiss at 1:05 PM

Purchasing office furniture is quite a task. If you are establishing a home office, it is difficult enough to find the right furniture for yourself, but if you are buying office furniture for an entire staff, the task becomes even more daunting. Nevertheless, with a few tips, you should be able to simplify the process. Office furniture becomes easier to buy when you know what to look for. So, in order to purchase quality office furniture you will need to take a few things into consideration before you start.

First, when you must remember that although cost is a major factor to consider with your purchase, it is not the only factor. In fact, there are many things that you need to take into consideration that rank higher than cost considerations. For example, comfort is one consideration that will supercede the issue of price. Yet, another issue that will pertain to ergonomics.

You will want furniture that will provide comfort throughout the day. Remember, the furniture you purchase will be used by you and your staff for many hours at a time. Conversely, you will not want furniture that is too comfortable? Why? Well in essence, too much comfort can actually decrease productivity. You don't want to be falling asleep while you work because the office chair you have purchased makes you feel like you're on a cloud all day! Comfort in the extreme is no better than discomfort when comes to purchasing furniture for your office. Thus, you will want to purchase furniture that is somewhere in the middle - productively comfortable.

Next, and this is especially important if you have a staff, you will want to purchase furniture that is ergonomically appropriate. In doing so, you can help prevent injuries from repetitive motion, improper posture and the like. You therefore will want to buy chairs that provide good posture support, and desks that are appropriate for keyboards use. You will want to set up work stations so that they are ergonomically correct for those individuals who will be working long hours doing the same type of work. Keyboards and special mice have been designed to help reduce injuries and you should consider buying such products to accompany the furniture you purchase for your office.

Lastly, style and cost are to be considered when you make your purchase. If you will have clients visiting your office you will need professional looking furniture to convey your professional attitude. Likewise, cost should be considered. Just remember that you should never compromise quality for cost when you are purchasing furniture for your office - whether it is a home office or otherwise.
